“I can’t even call it a TV show. It’s like a 10-hour movie that we’re showing on Fox, and the premise is amazing. It’s very thought provoking,” says Wilds. “It’s what would happen – after all of the people who have been killed by police – what would happen if in some small town in North Carolina, a black cop just so happens to kill a white kid.”

Wilds plays Officer Belk who is at the center of the incident. The show also stars Helen Hunt, Richard Dreyfuss, Stephen Moyer, Sanaa Lathan, Stephan James, and Aisha Hinds.

The subject matter of Shots Fired is likely to spark conversation in public forums and in living rooms around the country. Since the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement, police brutality and social injustice have become national issues. However, Shots Fired presents a different narrative from the cases of Mike Brown, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, and Freddie Gray.

“I think the world has such a view on us after the killings that have happened that they need, I guess, another view or another look to see the other side, to see what it would feel like. And just to bring up questions, thoughts, ideas to spark genuine conversation on change,” added Wilds.

The product of Staten Island, New York will also be seen in the forthcoming VH1 series The Breaks. After the success of the TV movie of the same name, the cable network is extending the storyline to a weekly show.
